A surprisingly interesting read. Does anyone on here know if the ubiquitous ETA 2824 / SW 200 is equipped with the mentioned spring-loaded safety mechanism on the date change finger? It would be good to know, since these movements are by far the most common movements most of us will encounter (although this may change with the advent of new Swiss movements and the increased use of Miyota).

I believe the ETA 2824 / SW 200 has the spring loaded mechanism on the "finger" that trips the date indicator .

Thanks Bernie. While it is still a best practice to avoid date changes during the 'danger hours', the risk is certainly reduced with this mechanism is place. It seems odd that the article would leave out some information on which of the popular movements have the mechanism.
