In a world where we we are constantly connected, messaging and being messaged, and frequently receiving notifications, Powell says something as simple as winding a mechanical watch every morning offers a moment of serenity.
Powell says: "It's kind of a poetic thing." He says that by winding a watch we "create a small moment where we're intentional about how we're going to use that time."

Re: Why are men wearing broken watches
I find this statement interesting - “...and this is actually the last simple thing that I own.” I dont think that’s true. I love my watch precisely because it’s is complex, not simple. A cheap digital watch would be simple, but not an automatic watch. It’s a complex piece of mechanical engineering that does something very simple - it tells me the time. That’s what I love, this anachronism sitting on my wrist.
Interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

Haha, I completely agree and thought about saying the same thing when I shared the post. Although upon second glance the “simple” is italicized, which I took to mean that he knows it’s complex, but not digital. Perhaps a better term would have been analog or mechanical.jkbarnes wrote:I find this statement interesting - “...and this is actually the last simple thing that I own.” I dont think that’s true. Agreed! Also, simple as in it does just one thing, additional complications not withstanding.theemaadhatter wrote:Haha, I completely agree and thought about saying the same thing when I shared the post.
