It's a good point. I was aware of the limit of 3 nested quotes, maybe drop it to two. To me though it is the awareness of the poster to delete all the crap and only leave the salient points. I'd never quote half a page of text before even adding my own comments, just plain daft to do so.

I can change it, but it still seems to me that common sense should prevail.

"Generally speaking" it is relative newbies (I think) to forums that have yet to grasp the etiquette of quoting. What I find most frustrating is a quote when answering the prior post. Totally unnecessary unless it is a long post and one wishes to address a specific point which can be edited down.

Thanks Kip.

Perhaps we should have a 'vote to quote'.

Can't vote on Tapatalk, but for me absolutely not. A nanny state limit is a greater crime than the odd overly quoted post!

The multiple quotes allows members to read all the parts of the discussion without having to trawl back through pages and pages of comments to understand the conversation, especially as they would be intermixed with other conversations.
I don't see it as an issue.
Seems to me , if you are on here everyday you'd be able to do without the quotes but ,judging by the number of members compared to the number of regular posters, that isn't the majority and would make posts confusing for all those casual members.
The vote system is flawed for the same reason, it will only represent the everyday users and not the majority of members who aren't here to vote.

I for one would greatly appreciate it if AVO added dictionary definitions (in English , not Latin) next to all his posts. It would save me hours throughout the day.

i think that if this thread serves to maake people think about how they use the quote button; and makes them edit down long copied screeds of text + photos so that only the pertinent info is repeated, then the job's done. i see no need to change the rules of engagement - just ask people to think a bit next time they need to quote. example - if you're referring to the post immediately aabove then there's no need to quote it -- just stick a few ^^s and we all know who you're addressing. cheers!

The ^^^^ doesn't get used by me because on the few occasions I've tried, someone else has put a comment in before I've finished typing and my ^^^ 's end up pointing to the wrong post.

These are good words. This is just what people do when they quote three very long and badly written posts that are nested and have pictures in them.

Better?
