Suggestion to disable nested quoting.. It just serves no purpose and double or triple quoting makes threads difficult to read with a lot of useless information and space to scroll through. Especially when they are long quoted posts with pictures. Just a single post quote would be sufficient and makes a thread much easier to read.

Example:

Most mechanical watches can be regulated. You can do this yourself but it is probably safer to have a qualified watchmaker do this. A timegrapher is a neccesary measuring instrument to have when regulating watches.

This is an interesting video to watch if you want to do it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsOR8GzmCzw
Thankyou very much, want this void the warranty tho?
It will void the warranty with some watch brands but not all. And if there is no sign of the watch being opened and no damage to the movement, they wouldn't be able to tell.

I do see the sense in what you are saying, though I’m not sure how it would be achieved.

What I would prefer to see is people being disciplined enough to trim the post they are quoting so that only the relevant and preferably short extract appears. Far too many people quote the entirety of a long post in order to comment about one sentence within that post.

Example:

That took seconds to trim, even on an iPad.

WUS restricts quoting to only 1 level - some other forums restrict it to 3.

It is a setting in the forum software. Just set it to 1 and it will only quote a single post.

Good luck with that.. :D It is difficult to do that on small screens like a smartphone and people just don't want to be bothered trying to find the
tags. Including myself.

I think it depends on how you view the forum.

On Tapatalk, the quoted posts are automatically shrunk and minimised, so it is not an issue. This tends to exacerbate"lazy" quoting.

On the web, it is a different story, and can be rather frustrating.

There is, IIRC, a limit in the forum setup/operation that allows a maximum of three (possibly four) quoted/nested posts within quoted posts.

If one tries to do more, the 'system' won't let you. Isn't that enough?

The exception to this is, if a forum contributor is working on Tapatalk when they are able to do more quoted posts within quoted posts; which you often don't realise you're doing as Tapatalk only shows you the most recent quote (not the older ones).

AVO's suggestion is eminently sensible IMHO; just employ common sense and don't quote within quote regardless. Do some trimming.

You may embed only 3 quotes within each other.

The worst excesses of the "quote within quote" are often those including a picture of a watch - at one point last week one picture of a watch ended up being quoted numerous occasions and back and forth about a dozen times all relating to the same days "wear"!

It's really not difficult to remove the pic when responding.
