HTTP links
Can we have it so that hyperlinks open in another tab rather than leaving the forum page ??
Just a thought......

Re: HTTP links
+1 - one of the few websites that doesn't match the 'norm'
clarification - should only be hyperlinks to external websites - internal links should remain within the same tab / window

Thanks Alasdair,
I'm no coder by any stretch of the imagination but I imagine one line of change would sort that, forever !

Re: HTTP links
The short-term workaround is to press Ctrl key and click the link... but I am sure you knew that already..

Re: HTTP links
it would it is simply a target of "_blank" rather than "_parent" on outgoing URLs
however, worth noting that the forum is running on an old - out of date piece of software, so I would suspect that efforts are best put into updating that (which will undoubtedly fix the links anyway!)

Re: HTTP links
Thank you Richard and I didn't know that at all. It's always nice to be educated.
It's actually "cmd" and click here on my MBP

Re: HTTP links
I have had a look and it is possible but it does mean editing files on the server so it will need to be passed on to someone who has the rights to look into it.akirk wrote:it would it is simply a target of "_blank" rather than "_parent" on outgoing URLs

The latest version of phpBB is 3.0.12 (28 Sept 2013) and the board is running 3.0.11.

Re: HTTP links
I was wondering why nobody had suggested that, it's what I do.
I assumed I had misunderstood the question as it seemed too obvious.

Re: HTTP links
It does - my view would be that it is not worth making changes like this in code - phpBB is not the ideal software for forums now, the core to it is out of date, its architecture etc. - I don't know what CWL will do with the forum, but it might be logical for them to consider moving it to a more modern system such as IPB / vBulletin / etc. Until they make such decisions, I think that Richard's suggestion makes sense (as do the others) - would be nice to have it fixed, but not worth making changes to the software if bigger changes are needed / coming...ianblyth wrote:I have had a look and it is possible but it does mean editing files on the server so it will need to be passed on to someone who has the rights to look into it.akirk wrote:it would it is simply a target of "_blank" rather than "_parent" on outgoing URLs

I was just about to post the same request, but see someone else is ahead of me.
This is the only forum I use where this happens - I invariably forget, and close the window instead of hitting the "back" button. Annoying.
Unfortunately the workarounds suggested above don't work on an iPad.

Re: HTTP links
on the ipad, press and hold over the link until the option comes up that allows you to open the link in a new tab.
another option on three button mice is to click the center mouse button (if yours is configured that way, but most are by default).

the "g" is for Greg...
