LE kingfisher movement

Post by drg »

I am soon to open my C6 forum LE (No 41) a present to myself for my 40th birthday.
I have never owned an automatic movement before & as the instruction book is the standard C6, can anyone give me some tips?

eg:
can I wind it manually? (I am not going to use it everyday) can I over wind it?
how shockproof is it, can I use it for claypigeon shooting, mountainbiking?
how often will it need servicing?
how long will it run when fully wound?

I have emailed Chris, but to no avail.

Much appreciated.

Hi drg, welcome to the forum. Some answers:

Yes, you can manually wind the C6 forum LE, and no, you cannot overwind it, the ETA 2824-2 calibre has a protection-mechanism against that.

Heavy movements can influence the accuracy of a mechanical movement, but you can do things like mountainbiking. I'm also a mountain-biker and always have a mechanical watch on my wrist during my rides, haven't experienced any problems. Extreme force and shocks are bad for the movement, I don't know how much force a watch can get during claypigeon shooting, but if you take golf for example, I know that there are people who have had bad experiences with their mechanical watches and the forces a watch receives during golf.

Servicing interval of the ETA 2824-2 is somewhere between 5 - 10 years, if you dive/swim a lot you should check the water-resistance more regularly.

Fully wound the ETA 2824-2 will run for approx. 40 hours.

Thanks for that Hans.
From what you say, I certainly won't use it when I'm clay shooting!

Can' t wait to open it on Sunday!
