Some more details about the LE Kingfisher

Post by Hans »

If you read some of the LE threads on this forum, there were a few open questions, here are the answers:

1. What will be the weight of the LE Kingfisher?
Current quartz Kingfisher is 140g, Steel = 180g. If #2824 is used instead of Ronda #715, it'll be another 5-10g heavier. So, it'll be about 190g.

2. Is the blue colour of the LE-dial the same as the blue of the normal Kingfisher?
Yes it is, the very original blue has been lightened ever so slightly....as under the convex crystal (4.5mm) it was coming out very dark.

3. Is the square around the date also lumed? (In the pictures it has the same colour as the indexes)
It will not be lumed

4. Is the white dot/pearl on the bezel also luminous?
Absolutely

That's all great news - at least to me. I'm sure that Joe will disagree with me about the square around the date window not being lumed. ;)

Now the only thing I'd would have wanted to see changed (and I know I don't stand a chance in hell) is the date window being circular and (more importantly) the return of the Kingfisher shape at the end of the second hand.

But again, I know it's not going to happen.

I think it the Peregrine looks great with the feature on the hand......

For me personally that would be too much, I greatly prefer the current second-hand of the Kingfisher!

I to would like the bird on the end of the second hand.
I cant understand whats happening about the bird theme. The C4 has the bird i like it very much and kind of assumed the Kingfisher would to,for me at least it would have been nice.
Does anybody know if Chris actually had any second hand prototypes made with the bird on the end or did they only get to drawings? I would offer to buy one and get a watch repairer to fit it for me. 8)

While I am guessing it is too late to do anything about the second hand, I too liked the little bird at the end. Actually, it wouldn't even need to be a bird. A CW on the end would be fine too. Just something to make it different than a stock second hand.

Yes, Peter, I am saddened that the rectangle around the date is not lumed. :datz: Bummer. I thought it looked nice that way.

What would have been the function of the lumed rectangle?

Function? Does "look cool" count as a function? Maybe I need to provide runway lighting for an emergency crash landing for a jet? That rectangle could save lives if it were lumed. How's that?

Um.

Heheh.

Hans, in a European context, that would've been a very good question.

Sorry to disagree, but it would have NEEDED to be a Kingfisher for me.
The watch is very aptly named "Kingfisher" - a bird that, like a scuba diver, ventures outside its own habitat, and does so with immaculate timing. The perfect name for a diver watch.
The kingfisher shape at the end would've given the watch a unique, somewhat organic character, perfectly in sync with its name.
