Problem with my Kingfisher LE

Post by Gray C »

When winding the watch it has always been a little stiff but when I wound it up today it was so stiff I was unable to fully wind it (I had not worn it for a few days). I also noticed it started to shudder slightly and could hear a whirring sound from inside the watch. It is also very difficult to push the crown in to tighten it up now.

I did not think it was possible to overwind the LE auto, correct me if I am wrong? Even so, I had only managed to wind it about 10 to 15 turns before it ceased.

The watch is still going and I guess if I wear it constantly it may be OK, but I do like to alternate my watches so inevitably they do wind down.

Any ideas?

I will send a copy of this message to Chris for his comments

Gray

Don't wind it manually. It's unnecessary. You don't want it to be fully wound when you begin to wear it. You don't want it to be fully wound for any reason. Let it be an auto. Wear it for a while, set the date, keep it on and leave it alone!

I wear mine only occasionally, so it needs winding to get it going. However I wind it just one turn just to kick start it, then allow the auto to take over.

I don't think it can be over wound but no point taking chances.

Hi

This may sound incredible, but it is true! I returned my watch to Chris and he replaced the movement for me no problem. However, several months later I have exactly the same problem with the new movement. As I alternate my watches I need to rewind my Kingfisher to get it going again if I have not worn it for a few days. I only give it about 10 to 15 turns and then wear it. Once it is going it is fine.

Over the past week or so the winding has become very stiff again and I am again getting a whirring sound when winding, just like the last time.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or am I just really unlucky with the movements I have been given??

1.) ETA's failing.
2.) You wreck your watches.
3.) You're cursed.

Hi,
I returned mine to Chris a few weeks after purchase as it wouldn't 'keep a charge' and would stop a few hours after taking it off!

He had it for a good few weeks and I eventually got it back with a new movement. It's been fine ever since though.

It seems to me that these particular movements are not very reliable :(

Possibly a batch problem, I think these were the first autos from CW
