wow - what an amazingly dreadfully badly coded competition - someone needs to let CWL know...
- you go to the page in Firefox (a mainstream browser) and there are no instructions
- if you click the like button (which is not clear) then a form pops up which you can complete
- there is an error message on it asking you to update the disclaimer
- you click to do that but it needs a log in for something strange - I ssume this is an error for CWL coders, not for us...
- then you click submit and controltab3 or something similar asks for access to your public profile if you say no - there are no details as to why - then it just cancels out... if you say yes, you just see the submission form again but with email gone
- enter the email again and resubmit and you are told that the facebook user has already entered the competition

really badly done - and not at all user friendly... :(

Yes, and as soon as it said that "controltab3" wants access to your public profile I cancelled and decided I didn't need to enter the competition that badly after all.

Sorry but don't understand the issues.

I clicked the link in the first post which took me to something CWL on Facebook. Entered my password to log into my account and the dropdown menu then gave 10 or so options, one of which was 'enter competition'; duly done.

I then 'liked' the CWL page to get future notifications. Job done.

Hi Guy,

By doing that you still haven't actually entered the competition. When you click on the "enter competition" option it takes you to a competition page where you have to enter your name and email address at the bottom. When you submit these it then says that an app wants to access you public profile - this is normally the time to say no in Facebook! It happens the same in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

as per welshlad - all you did was go onto that page - not actually enter - you need to enter first name / last name / email address / allow access to your public profile / etc. as above...

but not to worry - I will win it instead ;)

I entered my name and email earlier today. I went back to see what these issues are and it said my account had already been used. I presumed this meant I had already entered. I did not update any disclaimers or anything else this morning. Nor did I see a dropdown menu of any kind. :?

Thanks Guys. I'm a newbie to Facebook. I'll try again tonight.

Now entered fully; straight forward, no issues (using Firefox Aurora 23.0).

Thanks Alasdair & Welshlad for your advice.

you go to the link higher up this thread (preferably while logged in to your facebook account)
then you click the like button
then you enter your name / email address
then you ignore any error messages
then you submit
then you allow controltab3 access to your public profile (which as it is public is irrelevant anyway)
then you return to the page before with no confirmation of entry etc - but it is assumed that you have entered as if you try again you get an error
then you have a stiff whisky to soothe your nerves after such a dreadful user experience
and if you win the watch you send it to me as a thank you for telling you how to compete with my entry! :D

Thank you for the clear and concise instructions that I ignored until that bit about whisky - Lagavulin 16 on offer at Waitrose :)

It is a painfully difficult entry process. Well not so much painfully difficult as cringeworthy.

I fought through it and am now in the running though!
New to all of this, but it beats studying.

Didn't enter. I refuse to do apps on Facebook, too many holes in privacy settings.

It is simple - you can hold more than one facebook account - you can hold more than one email account...
so have a facebook account to its own email account with the basic info on there and no more - and then make the minimum public...

;)
