Darn darn darn..... my new C60 MK2 Yellow LE has a movement issue

Post by Jkpa »

I just got it earlier this week. It's in excellent condition overall and time keeping has been good. But now when hand-winding it, it makes the rotor spin and it has more resistance than I've noticed until now. My Bronze and White (white is 4 years old now) do not display this issue and wind smoothly and without the rotor engaging. I have read that the Selitta SW200 is somewhat susceptible to this, at least compared to other movements.

I'm pretty disappointed. I do not want to send the watch back to the seller as it will be hard to find another one in this condition and it being an LE and all.

Originally purchased in May of 2018, there is still more than a year left on the original warranty. I guess I have to email CW HQ....

Seems best to get in touch with customer services as the warranty is still in force. Shame to have it out of service having just acquired it.

Share what they say, but I'm sure that'll need a service.

Don't panic. In my experience, wear and wind manually every day for a couple of weeks and often the rotor frees up. In the event that it does not, a service will sort it out, typically it is just a sticking of the reversing wheels and nothing serious.

That's just about what I was thinking; especially as the watch, from what you say, hasn't had much use to date.

Yep, that's why it happens. BTW I don't think the ETA/Sellita is any more prone than any other movement, it's just that there is a large population of them in the sort of quality watches people take an interest in and tend to wear in rotation, often at lengthy intervals.

Maybe I will try that and see if anything changes. I’d hate to be without the watch for many weeks now. It barely has wear after 3.5 years since new so maybe it needs to “wake up” again.

Update: I came home and tried to wind it. No issue…. Smooth winding and no rotor spin. Maybe it was just a matter of little to no wear over a long period of time making things a little tight. I’ll monitor and see how it does but will hold off on service for now. Thanks for all your replies!

The issue is back. Slow hand winding, normal hand winding and it’s the same: the rotor is engaged and spins along with the crown as I turn.

Hoping it won’t take months to fix but I don’t want to keep using the watch with this issue.

And holding the watch in a vertical position as mentioned in a few places doesn’t help the issue? I’ve seen a couple videos and seen in the sellitas manual that the movement should be wound at a 30 degree tilt.
