C60 Anthropocene bidirectional bezel?

Post by dennisbible »

The website says it is, but I just watched a YouTube review that shows it as unidirectional.

But he only turned it one way. He didn't even attempt to turn it clockwise.

That's pretty bad for a professional review

I don't think he would have made that mistake. It looks to me like it is a press/prototype (no serial number). I'm guessing they changed it in production.

^^^ Still, wouldn’t you, as a professional watch reviewer, verify a detail like that? I can’t seem to find the video in question, so I’m not sure if it came out after the release of the watch. But even if CW did change that detail at some point, I doubt it would have been a last minute change.

I think I found the review in question:

https://youtu.be/Or831RcYymk

He showed some clear case back shots, which shows a full/normal serial #, not a prototype or pre-production model apparently? He did appear to try turning the bezel the other way, though you can’t really be sure via video.

I have confirmed with CW that the C60 Anthropocene GMT does have a bi-directional bezel. The website is indeed correct stating that it is bi-directional.

Why the reviewer, in this case, was under the impression that it was uni-directional they are unsure. They will investigate.

Just got mine and can also confirm it’s bi directional.

But does it still have 120 clicks like a dive watch bezel, or 48 clicks like a proper GMT should have?

I am curious as to why you think a "proper GMT bezel" should only have 48 clicks. On the surface it would seem that 24 would make more sense. but 48 would allow 1/4 hour increment settings.

That said, The C60 Anthropocene has a 24 hour bezel. wouldn't 120 clicks allow even more precise settings. Also a 120 click bezel allows you to track a third time zone.

One complete rotation of the bezel represents 24 hours on a GMT watch. So 24 increments represent each hour. A Rolex GMT II has 24 clicks, but I don’t believe can cope with countries with 30 min increments from GMT (eg Iran +3.5 hours, Afghanistan +4.5 hours, India +5.5 hours) because the bezel and jumping hour only move one hour at a time.

Hence, I personally believe 48 clicks is superior to allow for these countries. But, what do I know when compared to Rolex!

That said the Rolex GMT II is a proper ‘travellers’ GMT watch with jumping hour, while all CW are ETA/Sellita based ‘office’ GMT with jumping GMT hand. The latter generally seen as inferior, but not that it bothers me, as I have a CW GMT and I am happy with its functionality.

I can’t see a reason to have 120 clicks on a GMT watch as there’s no precise setting needed, as countries are either mostly a multiple of hours from GMT, or occasionally hours plus 30 mins. I can’t see why you’d need anything in between. But, more than happy to stand corrected as it is equivalent to a mental GMT tongue twister!

Sharing a 120 click bezel across multiple models makes economic sense, rather than designing a whole new GMT bezel concept which will cost $. This is not a criticism. They can’t do everything and still keep their watches so reasonably priced.

One reason is so that you can still use it as a timing bezel too. The numbers are just 5 min jumps. Not as accurate as a full timing bezel but handy for 5 min increment timing.

I am Watch Reviews 4K.
You are mistaken. In my reviews I test the bezel action, this includes; lateral side-to-side, backplay, and alignment.
I tested the bezel for backplay, and there was none.
Reason being it was a unidirectional bezel, and therefore could not be rotated clockwise.
Do not say that I did not even attempt to turn it clockwise when my review clearly shows me testing the backplay, therefore trying to rotate it clockwise.
I cannot show bezel backplay, or a bezel rotating clockwise if it isn't possible can I?
After my review Christopher Ward made the bezel bidirectional.
I even state in my review that the bezel should be bidirectional on a GMT watch, rather than using a 120 click unidirectional bezel as per a dive watch.
After my review I even emailed Mike France working drawings of a Rolex GMT Master II showing the 4 springs and balls bearings, and 4 case holes which give the GMT Master II a bidirectional bezel.
