I really like this CWE 2.0 design, as I’ve said over at FB CWE! I am mildly disappointed at the quantity allocated to the design, only because there clearly is great interest in it. I am glad, though, that there is such interest.

I’ve been tangentially involved elsewhere with another bespoke watch design which has been gestating for years. The general idea is great but unfortunately the momentum waxes and wanes greatly as well.

I really need a CWF / CWE cross-reference member lookup table! We were both really happy and also slightly disappointed when they had some, but not many, C60 Blue bezels left. We’ve got some news coming this week that might change the demand-supply imbalance though...

Hi there, thanks for the interest! For clarification this limited edition is from the CW Enthusiasts (CWE) group on Facebook, just being shared here for interest as I have a foot in both camps. If you are a long-term member over on the CWE then you probably would have seen it already, but the very limited run of 30 is already over-subscribed.

I think that basic design is great. I am pretty sure you could replace the blues with greens, reds or maybe even oranges with corresponding hues/saturations, and get equally strong variants.

Maybe short runs are doable if all are pre ordered. That's all Kickstarter is really, isn't it, and CW would have no credibility issue to overcome, and no prototyping required.

If only it were that simple...

If we wanted a red or green the MOQ would be 100; we just got lucky with this one as I had a Photoshop moment with a C60 Blue bezel plus a Sealander dial and they happened to find 30 spare C60 Blue bezels in a box in Switzerland.

Additional information for completeness on the final version approved for prototyping:

We were originally very keen to do something special with the movement in this LE - especially as it is so highly limited - but CW were unable to supply anything other than the standard SW200-1. However, last week they agreed as a very special proposition to offer us 30 COSC movements to use in the watch, albeit with a 20% price uplift over the non-COSC prices.

Given the massive amount of interest in the model we have taken them up on the offer and still seem to be retaining a healthy order-base to more than cover the 30 units available. With this new movement comes a name change also: we’ve dropped the LE moniker and it will be known simply as the ‘CWE Chronometer’, complementing the previous ‘CWE Trident’ LE.

^^^^ That's nice work Reuben.

Following this on the CWE, whilst you have a few detractors with the switch to a COSC movement you certainly have, it would appear as you advocate, more than enough interest to sell out on the edition.

Top notch.

Cheers Guy, your continued advice and guidance on the subtleties required for effective communication of the changes have definitely helped us out a lot!

 Have done a great job with that. While out of my range at the minute the COSC movement makes it even more special.

That sealander dial one looks good. I do hope they take the sealander dial in the next trident variant.

This is my hope for a MK4

Thanks Rich,

It’s a funny one: despite putting a Sealander dial in my own mock-up I really do prefer the date at 3; not sure why but I don’t really like it at 6 although I expect this might change over time. :problem:

In fact I think I know why I like the Sealander Elite but not the others - the date at 6 works when there’s no visible crown at 3 - but maybe I just like the crown and date together?

Well it’s amazing what you learn when you actually try to get something done...

The C60 Blue utilises the C60 Sapphire case, which has a special handset and a special hand tube that isn’t compatible with non-sapphire type dials!

This means the only blue lume handset they have available isn’t compatible with our design, so we’re having to switch back to green. This might be good, as it can differentiate the CWE LE even more from the C60 Blue, although even their original press version had green lume:

In our usual pragmatic/opportunistic style, though, we’ve come up with a really clever solution to tie it all together. I won’t mention the specifics here yet as we’re awaiting the prototype in August to announce it to the masses, but thought some of you might appreciate the nuance.

PS. We’re now actually using a C60 Trident case with the C60 Blue bezel, differentiating it even more from the original, so pretty happy the way it’s all coming together...

Very interesting to learn these details in the process. I’m excited for the prototype reveal.

Thanks for the insight into this process - really interesting, and I'm sure very demanding for those of you involved at the front end negotiations with CW to create such a piece. I was fortunate enough to pick up one of the 50 CWE LE with white dial and blue bezel, and love it.

I really enjoyed reading this thread. It was interesting to see the effort that goes into a bespoke watch.
