Just tried s small walk and am back in bed in a load of pain. I guess its baby steps at the moment.

Jafo, I see the surgeon in approx 5 weeks. I have my first physio appointment next Wednesday so im looking forward to that.

I did something silly on my walk. I was struggling to walk and texted my boss and the director over me to say how disappointed I was with HR. Its another story but HR phoned me today to say I was down as AWOL and that I wouldn't be paid and I owed them 2 weeks pay!

I had my sick note in upto to operation but I hadn't sent the hospital one. Ffs the first 4 days I was in the hospital and this week I've been drugged up and trying to cope. The last thing I thought about is trying to send them the sick note they know I was having surgery ffs. I feel like packing in work this company don't care about my physical or mental situation:-(

The Physio will help you a lot Mike for sure.

Very Sorry to hear how badly work are treating you though, companies these days don't really care at all for their employees, certainly nothing like before. I hope that works out okay for you.

Hi all,

Things are not right by a long way after the operation. I'm relieved the nerves were free'd etc but I know there was a lot of calcification and a lot of disc still stuck there. I'm in a lot of pain and I suspect I still have disc compressing the nerve but that's something away from this forum.

I'm not writing this for sympathy I just don't like this thread hanging over my my head as I go though my problems.

Would people be happy if I do a £50 lottery to give a little something out now and if in 6 months or so if things do get sorted I contribute £300 to my local hospice who I already am leaving everything to when I pass away?. If I do improve I will post the contribution to this post to show the contribution?

Please let me know your thoughts with this but I am determined to do something. I will leave it until Monday and read any replies and if people think this is a decent compromise I will start things going Tuesday.

Take care all its going to be another sleepless night for me with the back/leg pain x

Sorry

You don't owe us anything Mike, you getting through this would be great to read when pretty much everything else is doom and gloom. You certainly sound more positive and less rambly which I guess means less (legal) drugs - that's progress :D

Mike. I'm sure we would all much rather support you in your continued recuperation then expect to benefit from one of your watches.

Hopefully you will soon be wearing them all in better health.

All the best.

"Deks", it's so good to hear that you are through your operation and on the road to recovery. Take time to get yourself better and don't rush things.

We all need money to live, but work really isn't that important. It took me quite a while to realise that and it can be a hard lesson. Remember, HR (what an appalling term that is) really aren't on your side, they are there to represent the company/organisation, deal with hiring and firing, disciplinary issues and put measures in place to get the most from employees. That may include (say) physiotherapy, but that's to get you working, not to benefit you. How do I know? Both from experience and the fact that my last job was working as part of a team that included the HR function.

As to your giveaway, I think that it's safe to say that we all like watches here (!), but I'll add my name to the growing list of people who are saying "please keep and enjoy your watch".

Look after yourself.

Mike, I’d echo the sentiment here. It was a great offer for you to pass the watch on following surgery and recovery, but overwhelmingly everyone wants to hear of your recovery and well-being more than anything else. Ditch the offer and focus on your recovery.

Sorry I'm like a bad rash. I'm going to take a couple of weeks away from the forums and come back with my positive personlaity and posts and none of the feeling sorry for my stuff. A few nights ago I was in pain I've not known before, all night and it was off the scale. On a positive I'm coping after that awful night. I don't think I will be right again but I will learn to live with my pain levels.

Give me my couple of weeks and I will be back with my positive posts xx

Don't throw in the towel yet. It hasn't been that long since the surgery. It may feel like you have slid backward for a while but with rest and some rehab work you should see gains over time. The key is to do what the docs/rehab specialists say (to the letter) and keep a keen eye on the future.

Stay positive Mike, I genuinely hope things start to improve for you soon. Enjoy your sabbatical and we all look forward to hearing from you again soon.

On another note regarding this latest idea you posted above, it has had me thinking. Quite a number of us have stated we have no wish to take your watch off you, irrespective of how generous the offer is. How about you post the name of the hospice you support and I’m sure a few of us will make a small donation to them, £5, £10, whatever we can afford. I’m sure knowing you posting has done something for a good cause will help raise your spirits a little.
