Forum Upgrade - May 2021

The Forum will be doing a software upgrade on Wednesday the 19th May 2021. The forum will be down from approximately 09:00 AM – 21:00 PM BST (08:00-20:00 GMT) (04:00 AM-16:00 pm EDT). We expect it to be much quicker, but a hour window provides contingency for any issues. We suspect it may only take 6-8 hours.

The forum will remain online and reachable during this time to regular visitors and forum members but will solely display a “Scheduled Maintenance” type message, navigation any further will not be possible.

Tapatalk functionality will be unavailable to all and sundry this time around and probably see error message “Forum unreachable”, “Server down” or some other doomsday type message you can ignore.

Thank you for your patience during this upgrade.

The Admin Team

Most of the changes/updates had to do with security patches and behind the scenes functionality. Nothing monumental for the front room.

Well done Team  :rate10:
The Smilies pop-up window has a subtle but useful change - it's easier to scroll the pages of them to be able to select the one you want

Regarding the subject of Geo Tags on photos that was brought up here on page 4 and is posted as a warning in our How to Add Photos section.

The lastest upgrade has solved this issue. Here is it listed as one of the upgrades.
[PHPBB3-16329] - Strip Exif metadata from uploaded image attachments

This applies only to attachment photos posted after the upgrade was completed. We are unable to change any preexisting photos. We still recommend that if you are concerned about security, you should shut off the location metadata on your phone.

When was the update applied Kip? I know for sure there are photos posted 1 June which had Exif. I'll do a little testing when I get home.

^^^ Rich might it be the case that:

- Exif data removed if attaching using the forum upload functionality, but..

- Not removed if using other means, e.g. Tapatalk, of uploading?

You're right Neil. The specific example I was testing was a direct link to the forum rather than externally hosted so I assume it must have been uploaded to the forum. Having said that, the same poster uploaded a photo today and that contained no Exif so I was going to double check it was indeed fixed.

Just tested, all working- it does look like it was implemented around 2nd June.

Brilliant! Well done to the Forum Mods and Admins for pushing that change through.
