Thanks to Kip for the nod. I did one a couple of years back, creating a cryptic crossword about watch brands.

It occurred to me that, although most people wouldn’t want to create a crossword, some might like to know that there is a really useful and free online tool. Here is a link to it:

Having taught languages for many years, I realised that giving the little dears a 50 question grammar or verb drill would create a certain amount of pouting and eye rolling from one half of the class, and a certain amount of sotto voce adolescent chuntering from the other half. Then I discovered quite by magic that if you give them exactly the same activity but turn it into a crossword they will happily sit there for an hour, get on with it, get engrossed in it and learn from it. Kids, eh?
