C60 Abyss SH21 is 30 ATM or 60ATM?

Is C60 Abyss SH21 water resistant 300m or 600m?

If 600m then why is the steel case indicate 30 ATM......?

Anyone having the same issue or just me getting a special edition SH21?

30 ATM = 300m. For every 10m (approximately) of descent in water, pressure measured in atmospheres (ie air) doubles.

Sorry, that is completely wrong! 1atm or atmosphere is equal to air pressure experienced on the surface of the Earth at sea level - 14.7lbs psi. There is no difference between an air or water atm, they are the same unit of measurement. I think that watch is meant to be resistant to 60atm's - or 60 times atmospheric pressure. Should that be the case I would imagine your watch is fitted with the wrong caseback, it should read 60atm's. Hope that helps.

I am not wrong. You are correct that 1 atm is a defined pressure (101325pa in SI units) roughly corresponding to mean air pressure at sea level which is also approximately equal to the pressure exerted by a 10m column of water.

Thus at 10m of water depth, total pressure is roughly 2 atm, 20m, 3atm and so on.

Let's not split hairs over fresh or salt water.....

It might well be 600m WR (Water Resistance) and only CW will be able to give you / us a definitive answer.

Looking at the information available;-

1. the printing on the dial is 600m/2000ft, as is all

2. CW's technical information on their website, including

3. all references to it being 60ATM(600m) WR within the Owners Handbook.

It is only the S.STEEL 30ATM engraved on the case back ring that is different.

I've checked my own C60 SH21 Abyss and found the case back ring is also engraved S.STEEL 30ATM - albeit mine is a prototype, but as far as I know the only differences with the production model is the degree of 'smoke' on the dial and display back.

However, when the Abyss was released I was intrigued with it being 600m WR when the, as far as I know, technically identical C60 Apex is only 300m WR; a fact I put down to limitations due to it having a large display back.

All very curious. :-k :-k

And until we can establish that, it would probably be in your best interests not to try to dive below 300 m while wearing the watch.

Iā€™d be furious if Iā€™d been down to 303m in it ImageImage

Steve, not that you're taking the p*** just a little, but for fun:

2014, the deepest ever SCUBA dive 332m, 14 minutes to descend, 14 hours to ascend (mostly decompression) requiring just a tad more gas than he could carry with him - not to be tried at home :)
1988, the deepest open water saturation dive 534m, French Navy divers. 8 days to compress in a chamber, then lowered to depth for 28 hours in open water followed by 18 days to decompress! After you sir.....

Nb. the 2014 dive, whilst officially the Guiness record, has been disputed.

Here is a poor pic of the back of mine.

The manual definitely says 600 Metres though.
Interestingly, it also says there is black Super-LumiNova on the hands and numerals. I appreciate the stealth aesthetic they are aiming for but this lume barely visible. I wonder what your is like Guy?

Very intriguing that the watch is stated as 600m yet the case back states 300m. I would have thought the error surely must be with the case back although you would have thought (production) QC would have picked up on that

After placing it under the light for an hour...

Apart for the power reserve which is bright.... the rest is really dim...

Worst of all.... lasted 5 - 7 mins only.

Taken with phone camera under dark mode setting.

If advertised 600m but only got a 300m watch... what can we claim?

Felt kinda cheated as 4 factor make me purchase this...

1) Skeleton design
2) superluminova
3) 5 days power reserve
4) 600m

As has already been suggested, perhaps you should establish what the facts are before wondering what you can claim?

This is becoming quite a curious thread. As an aside, I wonder if these watches are individually tested to 300 or 600mtrs. Perhaps they are just batch tested in air pressure? Maybe they go nowhere near a pressurised water vessel? Perhaps the only testing is done at the prototype phase, what is CW's procedure for pressure testing their watches? As to, "what can we claim?" I think it's fair to say you can claim there has been a bit of a slip up.
