I figure if Bill Gates can get away with a 44mm Casio Duro (https://deployant.com/spot-the-watch-bi ... -50-diver/)....

^ Have you decided on the 40mm that fits your wrist so well in pictures? 40mm will also be FAR more saleable if you decided to move it on in the future

Well, let's say that (a) I think either is fine from a looks standpoint, but that (b) looks aren't everything. The 38mm weighs a lot less. It also sits better on my wrist. I find myself wearing it a lot more.

Given that I can't find a single other 38/39mm dive watch out there (even the Aquis, which I'm not a fan of, is 39.5), CW seems to have a nice little niche.

There is also the Baltic Aquascaphe which looks absolutely awesome (especially in blue). But I think the openness of the dial and relatively small bezel might make it wear bigger than 39mm....lugs are also the same length as the 40mm C60

Yeah, I've seen it. It's nice, but a little too over the top retro for me. At 48 lug to lug it's also too long... I really want to keep it 46 or under at this point. The Lorrier Neptune/Hydra are in the same boat.

Yeah once I got the feel of a smaller watch it really grew on me too. I've also noticed that whilst I don't have much fat, my arms a bit more round, which really shortens the lug-to-lug lengths that I can handle.

For some reason I really prefer the 40 on the bracelet, I tried it on the NATO and it just seemed to make the watch feel bigger. But the 38 I love it on.

Which NATO strap is that? It's a 2-piece strap, right?

I hadn't followed this thread for a while, but I really want to thank Heffergm for the pictures and ongoing analysis. With a wrist just shy of 7 inches, I think the 40mm size would look more contemporary on me and the 38mm will have a more classic look. Of course this is conjecture for the future, since my goodwill with Mrs O has been tapped out for a while.

I'm been debating what size of the C60 GMT to get (40 vs 42mm) as I have 6.7" wrists, and I've seen a couple of YouTube videos where the 42mm has generally been recommended over the 40mm (e.g. here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMuzfpKDZ48). I definitely agree on the point about the 22m bracelet tapering and sizing looking better than the 20mm bracelet.

I was going to get the 40mm, however I recently tried on a 2018/2019 Omega Seamaster 300m diver (42mm, 50mm lug to lug) and it fitted fine, so tempted to go for the 42mm C60 as it's lug to lug measurement is just under 50mm and reviews say the lug wrap around the wrist well.

At least the CW 60/60 policy makes it a relatively risk free decision.

For reference there's an intersting post here about a mathematical watch sizing guide: https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/my-mat ... 92616.html
1/ Convert wrist size into mm

2/ Divide total wrist size in mm by the size of the watch

eg A 7 inch watch and a 38 mm watch = 178mm divided by 38mm= Ratio of 4.7

This brings me to the controversial part. What is an acceptable ratio? I think using this formula, that an acceptable ratio falls between 4.0 and 5.0. Anything below 4.0 is too big and anything above 5 is too small.

Here is an example using a 44mm watch which should be too big for some with smaller wrists

6.5 inch ( 165 mm) Ratio=3.75 Too big
7.0 inch (178mm) Ratio=4.0 Just ok- acceptable
8.0 inch (203 mm) Ratio=4.6 Great fit

This brings me to interesting observation that wearing a 39 mm watch on a 7 inch wrist has a a very similar Ratio as wearing a 44mm watch on an 8 inch wrist. That is, a ratio of about 4.6.

For reference, here are the conversions for wrist size
6 inch = 152.5 mm
6.5inch = 165mm
7inch = 178mm
7.5inch= 190.5mm
8.0inch = 203mm
8.5 inch = 216mm

That's way too scientific and does not factor in the height of the watch nor the lug-2-lug, or (bit tricky) the shape of the wearer's wrist.

There are other factors too, such as the dial:bezel ratio, whether the bezel (on those watches that have one) is the same size as the case or bigger/smaller, and more.

As the owner of many SMP 300s over the years, its shape is definitely slimmer on the wrist than a 42mm C60 and it wears smaller all ‘round. It’s probably not a good basis for comparison for a C60.

Agree with Gary's comments re. comparison.

I found the 40mm C60 GMT to be overbearing on my 6.5" wrist, yet I tried on a 41mm quartz SMP recently and it wore surprisingly well.

Yes they were different thicknesses which is a factor, but it had more to do with the smaller bezel insert and dial diameter on the Omega that made for a better(smaller) fit visually.

Thanks gaf1958 and StrappedUp, appreciate the feedback. I think I knew in the back of my mind the SMP 300m would wear thinner than the 42mm C60, looks like it from C60 photos.

I have an Orient Kamasu/Mako III which is 41.8mm in diameter, 12.8mm thick and 46.8mm lug to lug and wears nicely on the wrist, doesn't look big. I'm assuming a 42mm C60 GMT would wear noticeably larger than the Orient?

I should just buy a C60 and use the 60/60 policy to return it for a different size if required, however I'm loathed to pay almost 10% import tax twice.

Has the Original issue been resolved? Have you settled on the 38 or 40?

I have the same wrist size and would love to see the final decision you (or others) made in this case

I have a 6 in wrist so after reading this I ordered the 38. Hope there is no crown issue. I really wanted a Longines hydroconquest but after trying on was just too big. 41mm is the smallest they make. I just hope 38mm is not too small for a dive watch. Worst case I can exchange for a 40mm. Thanks for the write up.
