RIP Ingrid Pitt

Just seen on the BBC News that actress Ingrid Pitt has died. I met her at a couple of memorabilia shows and she was always very friendly and entertaining. The adolescent me will always be eternally grateful to her for bringing that special something to the Hammer films I loved as a kid. Very sad. :(

Re: The Curmudgeons Corner

Self checkouts at the supermarket, I like the idea, but I do not need to be reminded to "place your item in the bag and scan another item or select payment method" each and every ****ing time I scan my stuff. Apart from that I think self checkouts are great! Self checkouts really make my ...

A belated thanks for the birthday wishes chaps. Been a little busy for the past couple of weeks so I'm playing catch up at the moment. :D

Re: Model numbers

I agree. I have a vintage Omega Geneve Dynamic and even Omega have struggled to give me any information on it, and that's only from the early 1970s.

Re: What should be the basis for the new LE?

Another LE Diver? I think there are far more original ideas....... :o Should the Trident win, my interest will disappear. :( I'm inclined to agree with you. Obviously diver's watches are very popular, but they've really been done to death at the £350 - £450 price range. Hardly a week goes by withou...

Re: Watch crystals

Fascinating article. Thanks for posting the link. A couple of years ago I received an advertising DVD from Glashutte Original detailing the process of watch manufacture; up until I watched the programme I was utterly ignorant of the work that goes into producing a sapphire crystal. As the article sa...

Re: My Babies!!!

Nice collection. As has already been said, don't apologise for any watches in your collection. The Tissot is really nice and the Timex has a history you just can't buy or replace however much you spend.

Welcome to the forum by the way :D

Re: Magellan

That could count as an offensive weapon here in the UK! :D

The biggest diver I've owned was a Zeno Airplane (sic) Diver. It was just too big for me and made my PO feel light by comparison.

It is really obvious isn't it. It fooled me though on first look. I showed it to a guy at work and he said straight away it was a fake; when I looked more closely I felt like a credulous berk.

Re: Had a bad day?

That's amazing! Although I bet that some poor guy was signing on the dole the day after! In the 1950s my Dad was in a Heavy Recovery Unit in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. On an exercise they were told to show their talents to a watching General by getting a tank stuck in a deep fast...

Re: Interesting concept

Hmmm. Quite clever but not my cup of tea I'm afraid. It reminds me of the clock on our local theatre. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1078569/Council-unveils-baffling-art-clock-cost-taxpayers-32-500--tell-time-shows.html Installed in 2008. It's now broken. :? If it had been a CW of course, i...

Re: Doxa watches - in uk?

They are nice looking watches. I emailed them a couple of years back with a query about export and VAT etc; they had an office in Germany then and I wanted to know if it was possible to ship them from there and pay tax on the purchase thus avoiding EU import duty. Within 24 hours a nice American cha...
