Re: The Golf Topic

240 carry is eminently possible...you don’t have to be a pro. On a good day I can carry that distance.

^^^^^^ I’ve played the Warwickshire.... Nice venue.

Re: The Golf Topic

The rules tend to make you think! If you lose a ball (which includes if not found within 3 minutes) then you must take stroke & distance I.e return where you took the shot from ,drop a ball and play the shot again. This is the same for a ball that goes out of bounds unless your club had initiated...

Re: Chess

Funnily enough I just started teaching my daughter how to play chess today. I expect she will be beating me shortly! I too like cribbage but rarely find anyone to play against. I also am quite partial to Scrabble but, again, rarely get to play. My Mother In Law runs a Scrabble club and gets most annoy...

Disappointing from my point of view so nothing purchased.

That’ll leave more for everyone else!

Re: Things that bothered you as a child?

I started watching a new programme about school when I was nearing the end of junior school....it was called Grange Hill and I thought it was effectively a documentary. It made me distinctly nervous about starting comp.

Also, one of the big questions of my childhood....why is dog poo white?

Re: The Golf Topic

It’s good for the self confidence to keep scoring 40 something points but it clearly indicates that your handicap is completely wrong. If you are playing regularly on a course that doesn’t have a slope rating and is only Par 62 then it must be excluded from the Golf England courses because it doesn’...

Re: A celebration of colour

I’ve had a few brighter coloured dials over the years....quick delve in the photos to get a few of them. 93E4E119-48C1-48C2-887E-824770610E3C.jpeg AB53A220-B5DC-46CE-9BF7-9C5C42A4D6CC.jpeg 98E32C17-46BE-4CC1-8697-B9465B0E0398.jpeg 00E8BC8F-41FC-44D4-A4C7-00671B1CAB73.jpeg D17EC17D-FA8E-440C-8DBA-BF0...

Re: The Golf Topic

Visited the range twice today, it paid off, as I had a cracking round this evening. Got 47 Stableford points, didn't score on the 18th but shot a 77. Our little gangs course record, it's a par 64. The YouTube tips are working for me ! AVO, that trip to St Andrews, sounds fantastic. I've never seen ...

Re: The Golf Topic

Are you wondering which game you are taking with you? Your A, B or C or F game? Back tonight for the 3 day golf (and beer!) trip. Played two courses....one a downland course so not too hilly but a nice course. The other (played twice) a real test and possibly the hilliest golf course I’ve ever play...

Re: Top off in the Morning or Watch Winder Overnight

I am very firmly against the use of watch winders. If they are kept on the winder they are continually accruing wear needlessly. IMO it is far better to keep them in a watch box and either wear them regularly in rotation or,if they haven’t been worn for a little bit, hand wind them a touch and let th...

Re: Can I wear my watch while Golfing ?

A dedicated golf GPS watch is very accurate. Depending on how much you spend you can get various features but all will give you the yardages to the front/middle/back of the green. Obviously they aren’t going to tell you to the flag as that moves daily. I regularly play with a bloke who is a slave to...

Re: The Golf Topic

Are you wondering which game you are taking with you? Your A, B or C or F game? Monday......standard stableford competition between us. Hopefully A or B but seeing as I’m still rebuilding my swing I will settle for enjoying the round without a real expectation of winning. Tuesday..... first day of ...

Re: The Curmudgeons Corner

Night shift. Bed. Lovely. Git of a neighbour who knew I was up all night working and then proceeds to switch on every power tool he owns, and in particular an incredibly noisy saw, at 930am. (I use earplugs as I don’t expect the world to stop just because I’m trying to get some sleep but no earplug i...

Re: The Golf Topic

Golf is a stupid and frustrating game. 18 holes Thursday - struck the ball well throughout apart from my driver which was the ‘club to avoid’ for the round....things generally went swimmingly (bounces were the right way, puts dropped etc etc)...scored and played to handicap. 18 holes Friday - driver ...

Re: Can I wear my watch while Golfing ?

I can’t stand wearing a watch when playing golf for two reasons. Number 1 - I don’t want to know the time. I’m there to enjoy myself (which is a bit of an oxymoron as any golfer will tell you 🤪) not continually look at the time. Number 2 - It makes me feel ‘off balance’ when I address the ball. Load...
