Vintage Elgin Automatic - MY FIRST REPAIR!!!
So have been Ebaying on consignment for nearly 25 years, and recently started selling for a watch-repair store. One of the coolest items that came in from there was this LOVELY old Elgin Automatic (cal. 848). Sadly wasn't working. Since the customer is super-cool with whatever I can get for these ol...

Re: Soviet Electronika Vintage digital - Anyone have instructions...
Some of the older digital modules had a small trimmer variable capacitor which could 'pull' the resonant frequency of the crystal by a small amount. By tweaking that trimmer by a tiny amount you could vary the rate by a small amount. As an example, here's a digital module with a trimmer- you can ju...

Re: Soviet Electronika Vintage digital - Anyone have instructions...
From what I read it's actually on this watch an interface adjustment +- .1-1 second or so a day. My watch friend in St. Petersburg told me that these internal ones are ultra hard to adjust without a special adapter/reader.

Soviet Electronika Vintage digital - Anyone have instructions...
So found a great deal on a 1980's Electronika Alarm/Chrono Soviet Digital watch in great shape (not the the one in this picture, but very similar - this picture was just really good so attached it for clarity). Anyway, most of the features are really easy to figure out for anyone who ever had a 90's...

Re: Vintage Gallery
A pretty little thing from the East in the 1980s, that curiously enough can also use a Swatch Guard from the West!

Re: Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
Sort of like how Sepia Toning in Photography was always intended to look old-fashioned, but never actually had any relation to any vintage photo printing process, or who Middle English in the Bible was kinda' arbitrary when it was used in King James times. These feel like 'synthetic' vintage. An in...

Re: Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
And don't even get me started on the freaky stitching on a lot of Stingray Straps - who thinks this looks good? Like buying a 20GB software package and having a 40GB day-1 patch (unacceptable) - I.M.O. Maybe using a sweater serger isn't the best tool for fine leather working. s-l1600.jpg

Re: Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
I always associate the side stitch with vintage straps, and I like the added detail. Otherwise it’s just a strap. The funny thing is, unless I'm wrong, this is a very modern trend. I'm nearly 50, and don't recall ever seeing that kind of stitching when I was a kid. The only stitching then was lengt...

Re: Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
I think it works with a vintage leather style strap on certain watches with a retro look. I have one on my blue alcantara Martu strap worn with the BB58 blue. Not sure they would work with more of a dress watch though. My thoughts, exactly. It works on the right strap with the right watch. I have a...

Re: Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
I probably prefer without, although its not the end of the world. I tend to pick dressier straps, which often come without, but I bought a CW Tiber which does have have the stitches. Am I right thinking that strap edges tend to be finished differently with the lug-stitching? She said in the case of...

Lug-Stitching on Leather Straps - Yay or Nay?
So have noticed in the last 5 years that those little wrap-around stitches in contrasting colors near the lugs becoming really common. Now, well-patterned length-wise stitching is obviously attractive (especially in a padded strap), but this other feels to me like pretentiousness (sort of like how p...

Re: New ULTRA Limited Edition Retro Watch Project...
UPDATE!!!! So have cleared the first hurdle. Got a 'pulse' from the solar cell in the original 3056A movement in the watch being modded. Doesn't quite have the amperage to push the hand forward, but pulses reliably every second, so the voltage is looking good. Will need to see next if the EcoDrive ...

Re: Russian 'Grail' Found!
Had to replace the buckle (and will also need to rework the holes in the band to fit said new buckle), but did want to post a shot with the other band found for this fun critter - Stingray in Green! Am ready to order an "old fashioned" with Thurston Howell III

Classic Raketa Caliber CellPhone Wallpaper...
So my Sister has been enjoying seeing how much fun I've had with classic Russian watches (mostly from the 1980's), and she decides to join the club and find one of her own - and low and behold picks a beauty from the 1960's for only $50! It runs like a top and unlike most newer Soviet watches, has a...

Re: New ULTRA Limited Edition Retro Watch Project...
Cool! Will start testing. There is likely - from what I can see so far, only one possible hitch with using a new movement, but will proceed first with that assumption.
