Re: 50th birthday watch - Schofield The Light / General Purpose Field Watch

Hi Lindsey! I haven't been around for a while, just occasionally lurking - God I hate that expression. First off, I wanted to wish you a happy 50th, it's quite the milestone. I haven't engaged with the whole birthday thing on here, watches have been a big enough distraction in and of themselves. I m...

That has really bought a smile to my face, Lindsey. It really is this simple, the ultimate litmus test.

Re: Zenith Chronomaster Original Triple Date Moonphase

That is just stunning, though utterly impractical for my myopic eyes. Would struggle to read the date let alone the day and month which look tiny. I love chrono's and the Chronomaster original would be very possibly top of my personal grail list. The 3 coloured subdials are so iconic. As a bonus thi...

Re: The Rolex Air King - Ref 126900

Sometimes it feels like we're on a Rolex forum rather than a CW forum, there's a lot of love for the crown round these parts. That's a very nice watch I might add, congratulations. It's great when you've coveted a watch for a long time and it eventually materialises. Only just noted how simila...

Re: The Rolex Explorer

Mmmmm, interesting quandary. I remember reading your previous post too. Clearly your issue appears to be with the make of the watch and what that means to you. You obviously like the watch, if it said IWC or Bremont on the dial we probably wouldn't be having this conversation. I only have a very mod...

Re: Coming: the ultimate C60 Trident Pro 300

I read this in Loop, too. I'm in the market for a really nice diver, but am looking for something a little different (I think). My eye has really been taken by the Formex Reef, but it might be worth keeping the ol' powder dry until this is revealed.

Re: Smart Watches and the Smaller Watch Trend

(1)Are smaller watches the future? Or will things equalise out between the two extremes with watches most of us feel comfortable with? (2)How will the physical size of smart watches affect the watch buying decisions of the public now and into the future? This is an interesting thread,Iain. I've cho...

Re: From your largest to your smallest....

I seem to have settled on a range of 43mm-39mm, and I only have tool watches at present. I think that's my personal sweet spot with future watch purchases probably falling between the 39-41mm range.

Re: Both battery powered; one shunned, one loved.

No one chose to comment on the below comment: What confuses me is how they are so well received unlike their fellow battery powered watch the quartz. Is it just a question of timing? Is it that the quartz watch arrived before the digital and thus had the collapse of the mechanical watch industry lai...

A very frozen scene from the bathroom window in SW Ireland, -5C, very cold indeed for these parts.

Re: SOTC - ssholloway21 2024

Enjoyed reading your musings on your life through watches, it was funny in places, particularly the way you feel you need to reel your habits in. I really like your CW C65 proto, that's a fantastic dial colour with contrasting bezel. I wouldn't mind betting that there'll be a lot of folks on here wa...

Re: A question for the retirees

I'd like to offer a different spin on retirement, Drew. I have pretty much retired at 55, not by carefully considered choice but by circumstances. As I have mentioned previously, I have been waylaid by a very unpleasant form of inflammatory arthritis, which in my case affects the spine and hips. in ...

Oh dear! Shall I go and sit in the corner facing the wall  I have embraced and used loads of smart watches. I currently have a series 8 and an ultra and also a top of the range garmin golf/smartwatch I love the tech and all they can do. I also love the fact they can be made to look so differe...

Re: Connected…or not?

When my Apple Watch series 2 died I chucked it in the electronics recycling pile and got a new one. I don’t think it would be so easy to live with if one of my mechanical watches died. They are amazing pieces of technology but they don’t have a soul?? I think this is it for me, my wrist space is re...

Re: Connected…or not?

By wearable tech I assume you are essentially referring to wrist mounted computers (smartwatches)? If that is the case then I have decided they are a no no for me. Wearable tech could also include VR headsets, also a no no from me. As I've said many times before, I like tech but on my terms. Like yo...
