Re: Pressure Testing

That sounds expensive, the last time I had one done cost €10 at the local watchmaker, only a 10bar test though more than enough for most purposes. Just a thought: if you plan on testing regularly you can buy cheapo wet pressure testers (the sort that pressurise the watch case so that you can immerse...

Re: Can I wear my watch while Golfing ?

As a non-golfer, I'm curious about the use of GPS trackers. I get that they show you where you are precisely, to a foot or two (I guess), a Guy Sent from my Xperia 5 using Tapatalk Civilian GPS receivers are usually accurate to a 5-10m horizontal radius under clement conditions - not guaranteed and...

Re: Has THE SALE now levelled off?

This sale was respectable yes, but I was paying close attention to this sale and the January sale, and this one was definitely not as good. Go back and check out the thread here for the January sale, there’s a screenshot of the initial offering which was massive, including many really interesting p...

Re: Cuervo y Sobrinos - cool, Cuban and left field!

I'd vote any day for that gold/blue Flameante - a snip at a mere 12k: A retirement watch should be gold blue and gold suit perfectly together (quite a rare combination these days) gold is very practical for cases - easily repairable and scratches polish away You would wear that as something extra sp...

Re: And…Breathe! It’s official. I think.

Just that it’s an old watch, Nik. I just don’t fancy swimming with it, though I might be tempted to get a service and have all the seals checked/replaced. To be honest, most of the time these days I swim in a pool and I don’t wear a watch. Fair enough. Given that you bought it on Chrono24 I had ass...

Re: And…Breathe! It’s official. I think.

Steve

can I ask why you are worried about your UN getting wet? Specification is 100m/screw-down crown. No problem for swimming - I would, except mine is on ostrich :problem:

Caveat: pressure check necessary once a year or so.

Happy retirement BTW!

Re: Increasing Watch Prices

I cannot comment on the new watch market as I do not envisage buying new except under the most singular of circumstances. In the HQ used market that I do track, my observation is that price rises are very patchy and confined to specific models but overall there is definitely less supply and the mark...

Re: The quality (or otherwise) of online reviews.

In general, I loath online reviews - 5-10 times longer (with skipping) to get the meat compared to (skim) reading the same content and I have much better uses for that time.

Re: C8 Disaster.

Hmm I'm beginning to wonder whether these manual SH21s have a bit of a problem in the escapement department as mine similarly jacked in at 3.5years old and I seem to recall another on the forum earlier this year? You'll probably have to bite the bullet and return to CW - it's not that bad as a proce...

Re: Crown In or Out - Quartz

I agree - leave the crowns in operating position, it doesn't make much difference to battery lifetime as the battery will self discharge anyway and they are less likely to leak under load, while a quick glance at the dial shows that the battery is discharged which is when leakage is more probable. I...

Re: My SH21 C65 is back!

I've see alot of Sigma lenses at tempting prices, are they any good d'you know? If you are using the Canon system, stick with Canon lenses as a rule. Lenses are a far better investment than camera bodies, any particular lens should see you through generations of bodies. Sigma lenses are usually fin...
