My first automatic

Post by zelmo »

I finally pulled the trigger. Have two on order - C5SSK and C5GWT.

These will be my first automatic watches. I have read a lot of threads regarding the pros and cons. One of the recommendations has been to wear a new watch all the time for a couple of weeks to let it settle in. What should I do with two new ones? Should they be rotated, or would it be better to leave one alone and focus on the other for a couple of weeks before starting over with the first one?

It matters not at this stage really, brand new and all that....rotate them if you want or leave goldie for the weekends only. Its fine to leave auto's without wearing them for a couple of weeks too. Just wear them without worrying :)
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Congratulations Zelmo! I imagine you are extremely excited.

As Matt said, don't be overly concerned with the break in. Just wear and enjoy. The break in will take care of itself. As these are your first automatics wear each for a couple days at a time and see how long they run when at rest. This will give you an idea of how much a reserve you are building up in them under normal use. This will let you know how long before you will have until they would need winding. Letting them stop is okay. Just If they were to be sitting for months on end then it is advisible to just wind them every one in awhile to give them a bit of exercise.

I have a modest collection and they all get wound or put on a winder on a rotaing basis so they get some exercise evry couple of months or so if not worn.

Nice one Zelmo, I am sure you will enjoy your new acquisitions. I picked up a new car in November and asked the guy if it needed a run in period. 'Nope' was the answer, 'just get in and drive as you normally would' *. Same applies here methinks :D

Well done. I'm wearing my C5GWK as I type. I suspect you're gonna like your two C5s.

Thank you for all of the kind words and advice.

Yes, I am excited. I have actually been thinking about a new watch for 2 years and couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on some of the other "names" due to the price tags. Thousands for a quartz......please!

Then I found this brand and forum. Everyone here has been very helpful. The looks of the C5 were exactly what I wanted. At first I was going to get a C5GWT and a C20SSS, but after seeing the new bracelet for the Lido decided to just get a second C5 with the black strap. I have another SS watch with a bracelet if I want that look.

Finally, a big thank you to Wera. She was able to get me the C5SSk even though it is not readily available.

I promise I won't wine if a better sale comes along!

My two cents: Both watches, after at least one full day of wearing, should have enough power reserve whereby; you could wear one and then the other and then the other, in other words, alternate each day since you have two. You should find that when it comes time to change, the watch you wore the day before is still running and so will the other one the following day when you change to that one.
